Equity and opportunity. For all. This is the promise of Seattle Foundation. These are our highest held values, reflected in our mission, our partnerships, the character of our team and all we do.

Today, we face the possibility of policies that could reverse, rather than advance, equity and opportunity. We find ourselves amidst political divisiveness, racialized violence and extreme polarization, hearing proposals that produce greater division rather than unity. The fundamental ideal of community, as we define it, is at risk.

In this uncertain time, Seattle Foundation reaffirms its long-standing commitment to civic leadership, as well as fighting division and disparity in our communities. As your partner in effective philanthropy, we invite you to invest with Seattle Foundation to support the critically important work underway to advance equity and opportunity. Your support furthers our work to:

Invest to address the fundamental causes of inequity. The disparities we see today are often the result of cause and effect at a policy level. It is clear, and empirically proven, that we cannot intervene our way out of the challenges facing our region. Thoughtful, collaborative and brave systems reinvention, in partnership with effective nonprofit organizations, is our call to action.

Voice our views. We must share our passion for equity and opportunity, and refuse to be silent on matters of inequality and discrimination. We must provide space for respectful and meaningful community discussion. Rather than amplify discord and divisiveness, the voice of Seattle Foundation must advance understanding, empathy and solution-centered dialogue.

Collaborate and stand with our partners. We are the community’s foundation and, as such, embrace the diversity of Greater Seattle. We are proud to collaborate with, and stand up for the rights of, immigrants and refugees, the LGBTQ community, women and girls, people of color, and others excluded from equal opportunity here and abroad. We promise that when Seattle Foundation is at the table, all voices will be heard so that our decisions address the needs of all our residents.

Our Center for Community Partnerships focuses directly on achieving greater racial and economic equity. Investing in the Center and its initiatives – Communities of Opportunity, Neighbor To Neighbor and Vibrant Democracy Initiative – furthers the goals we share to make Greater Seattle a stronger, more vibrant community for all. Join us to create equity and opportunity, for all. Our community – and our country – deserve no less.
