How to Help Pacific Northwest Fire Victims

Dozens of fires throughout the region have prompted Governor Inslee to declare a state of emergency: here's how you can help

September 07, 2017

The hazy skies we’re experiencing here in Greater Seattle are an ever-present reminder of the numerous wildfires burning through some of the Pacific Northwest’s most beautiful wilderness. The fires in Central Washington down through Central Oregon are not yet contained and many continue to grow, increasing risk to the region’s natural beauty and endangering more lives and homes.

Wildfires create immediate need for relief, as well as long-term community needs to rebuild. Here are some ways you can support communities and families affected by the devastation.

The Community Foundation of Kittitas County works with the social service agencies that are helping people in need for those directly affected by the Central Washington fires.

There are many other organizations serving people affected by the wildfires in Okanagon and Chelan County. You can give directly to one of the organizations, which are both local nonprofits and affiliates of larger, national groups such as Salvation Army.

As always, The Red Cross is a critical partner for emergency support to families in need. Donate to the American Red Cross at redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Financial donations to "Disaster Relief" allows the Red Cross to purchase the exact supplies for the needs of a specific disaster relief operation.
