GiveBIG 2018 is May 9
Seattle Foundation's eighth and final GiveBIG will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018
November 09, 2017
We are pleased to announce that Seattle Foundation's eighth and final GiveBIG will be Wednesday, May 9, 2018. The one-day online giving campaign will operate on the same CiviCore technology platform used in 2017. This simplifies the registration process for nonprofits and is a tested platform that performed well for donors.
2018 will be the final year GiveBIG is presented by Seattle Foundation. When we introduced GiveBIG in 2011, Seattle Foundation’s goals were to create a campaign that would significantly elevate the development of nonprofits’ online fundraising and social media capabilities. With Seattle now consistently ranking as one of the nation’s top cities for online giving outside of GiveBIG, these original goals have been met.
While many nonprofits are successful with GiveBIG, there is growing feedback about donor fatigue, excessive email solicitation, costly transaction fees and the proliferation of giving days. In 2017, we saw a decline in donor participation and online donations. Other giving day sponsors around the country have seen similar trends, particularly as the national “Giving Tuesday” after Thanksgiving is gaining greater support. After a successful 2018, we believe it will be time to look forward with our nonprofit partners to identify new ways Seattle Foundation can support the sector’s capacity to meet our community’s needs.
Seattle Foundation’s team intends to make GiveBIG 2018 the ultimate celebration of this successful community partnership. Early next year, we'll be back in touch with details on how nonprofits can update their organization’s profile and make changes to banking information.
