Seattle Foundation joins All In WA coalition to support vulnerable communities throughout Washington state

Local philanthropy campaign, All In Seattle, inspires statewide effort and continues to galvanize local giving in new partnership with Seattle Foundation

SEATTLE, Wash. – Today Seattle Foundation proudly joins the All In WA coalition supporting statewide relief for communities most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It also announces a new partnership with All In Seattle, the flagship “All In” effort that gave rise to the statewide movement. Both All In WA and All In Seattle are powerful vehicles for delivering philanthropic dollars to communities who have been hit hardest by the coronavirus crisis.

“All In Seattle shows the amazing power of people coming together to help those who are most vulnerable right now,” said Seattle Foundation President & CEO Tony Mestres. “We are honored that All In’s leadership has entrusted Seattle Foundation to take this movement to the next level and we are excited that this local movement sparked a statewide campaign.”

In March, a group of civic-minded community leaders came together to launch All In Seattle, an online platform designed to inspire giving during the current crisis. Over the past two months, All In Seattle has received more than $30 million in commitments to support community-based organizations and relief funds responding to the pandemic. The initiative’s founders saw potential in partnering with Seattle Foundation, which has a long history of guiding high-impact philanthropy and building bridges across sectors, as the best way to build momentum and carry its work forward.

Inspired by All In Seattle, All In WA is a coordinated, statewide relief effort powered by a coalition of philanthropic leaders, community foundations, United Way organizations, community leaders, frontline nonprofits, companies, individuals, and public officials. The All In WA campaign encourages giving in three different ways:

  • Cause Funds focus on specific areas of need around hunger, youth homelessness, small businesses, undocumented workers and families, and economic recovery.
  • Community Funds support relief and recovery efforts in specific cities and counties as well as Indigenous and Native, Latinx, and LGBTQ communities.
  • The All In WA Fund is an aggregated fund that will address funding gaps across the state, with grantmaking decisions made by an advisory group of community leaders from around the state.

Seattle Foundation is the architect of the All In WA Fund and of anchor partnerships with the Cause and Community Funds. Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos will match individual donations under $1 million to All In WA causes, up to a total of $25 million. Of the initial $20 million in commitments, approximately $8 million are eligible for matching funds. Launch commitments include generous contributions from the Ballmer Group, Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Microsoft Corporation, Howard & Sheri Schultz, Perigee Fund, Nick & Leslie Hanauer, and Jim & Jan Sinegal.

On June 10 at 7 p.m., an hour-long virtual benefit concert, All In WA: A Concert for COVID-19 Relief, will help raise funds for people in need. Presented by Amazon, the benefit concert will feature a star-studded lineup, including Pearl Jam, Macklemore, Brandi Carlile, Ciara, Russell Wilson, The Black Tones, Dave Matthews, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Pete Carroll, Mary Lambert, Joel McHale, Ben Gibbard, and Allen Stone, with the full lineup to be announced at a later date. The benefit will be broadcast live on KING 5 (NBC, Seattle), KONG (Independent, Seattle) KREM (CBS, Spokane), KSKN (CW, Spokane), KVEW/KAPP, and KGW Portland Subchannel 8.2 (Justice Network), and streamed live on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel (www.twitch.tv/amazonmusic) and www.allinWA.org.
