Greater Seattle is changing and growing, and so is Seattle Foundation. “The heart and science of philanthropy” is the intersection of passion and discipline to create lasting change. As the community’s foundation, our mission is to ignite powerful and rewarding philanthropy to make Greater Seattle a stronger, more vibrant community for all. We work with more than 1,200 individuals, families, and corporations to strategically invest their philanthropic resources in ways that inspire continued giving. We also partner with philanthropic institutions, government agencies, community organizations and businesses to catalyze positive change in our community across a range of issues.
Our organizational culture is one of engaged teamwork, where we support one another in reaching our collective and individual goals while constantly learning along the way. Our office is located in the downtown core of Seattle, however our reach is much broader than that – we focus on Greater Seattle and the Eastside and also support donor interests across the country and around the globe. What’s the Opportunity?
As a contract member of the Marketing Communications Team, the Contract Writer works in partnership with Philanthropic Services and Community Programs to concept, write, and produce original content across many brand communication vehicles, both internal and external, with a consistent brand voice. Supports members of the Marketing Communications Team in planning, calendaring, editing and writing content including news releases, blog posts, human interest stories and grant announcements, maintaining brand voice standards.
- Concept and create original, innovative, clear, persuasive copy, for digital and print channels, that supports the Foundation’s communication goals.
- Write copy, maintain the content calendar and support-the lead on assignment tracking.
- Develop compelling and inventive content solutions to elevate and evolve the brand, focusing on human interest storytelling that demonstrates SeaFdn’s impact on social change.
- Work collaboratively with Community Programs and Philanthropic Services to build and carry out a content strategy that promotes key campaigns, events and announcements.
- Brainstorm and collaborate with partners on new ideas and strategies.
- Create eye catching and innovative headlines and copy.
What Are We Looking For?
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and demonstrated experience in:
- Strong writing experience in short- and long-form, with expertise in telling human-interest stories of social impact.
- Knowledge of, and experience writing about, racial equity and economic inclusion.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office; experience in Adobe Creative Suite and Sitecore CMS preferred.
- All applicants must submit writing samples along with their resume.
- Possesses a journalistic approach, understanding what makes a great story and ways to connect social impact to current news and events.
- Keeps current on community issues and the local nonprofit landscape.
- Proven ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment, while working independently and as part of a team.

A collegial work environment and competitive salary. This a part-time contract position, 20 – 25 hours per week.

This position works in an office, and the noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, i.e. copier toner.
