What’s the Opportunity?

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to learn more about the world of philanthropy and nonprofit fund development? Do you love being a member of a dynamic team? Our Philanthropic Services team has an open position for a full-time Development Assistant, an important administrative role for the Foundation, to support our current base of philanthropists while also providing the necessary support to meet our future development needs. In the Development Assistant role, you would provide technical and administrative support, including processing transactions and interpreting and explaining our services to philanthropists and professional advisors. The office environment is fast-paced, requiring your flexibility and strong prioritization skills along with your ability to multitask, communicate effectively, and demonstrate excellent time management. Consider this role if you are a highly organized individual capable of delivering on the following key responsibilities:

Development Support:

  • You will conduct fund development research to identify prospective philanthropists and professional advisors (law firms, financial advisors, CPAs, etc.) who may be passionate about pursuing the Foundation’s funds and services.
  • Assist in preparing, submitting and tracking grant applications to institutional partners.
  • Answer calls and emails from prospective philanthropists.
  • Coordinate calendar meetings for prospective philanthropists and SeaFdn staff.
  • Support PS leadership during special projects.
  • Coordinate team meetings and minutes.
  • Support Ops team with fund development.
  • Maintain the Development Pipeline system in Raiser’s Edge.

Operations and administrative support:

  • You will assist the Senior Operations Manager with records management process to bring accuracy and formality to the data/records maintenance process. Provide database and spreadsheet support, including the production of reports, queries, and mailing lists in Raiser’s Edge and Microsoft Excel.
  • Develop and execute special projects to achieve operations improvements for increased team cohesion and efficiency (e.g., file reorganization, procedures documents, fund tracking).
  • Administer, troubleshoot and recommend improvements to improve online experience for Seattle Foundation donors and financial advisors.
  • Order, track and inventory printed collateral and other materials for new and existing donors; make recommendations for process improvements and enhancements.

What Are We Looking For?

Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and demonstrated experience in:

  • Minimum of 1 – 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with event planning and project management.
  • Development principals and donor relations management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge (or relational database).

  • Some college coursework in general business administration or related field is preferred.
