Under Moodie’s leadership, Community Roots Housing works to improve environmental sustainability through a lens of social justice, equity and environmental health in the neighborhood. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Community Roots Housing turned its attention to rent relief and community engagement. During this same time, Moodie also spearheaded a program that delivers meals to their affordable housing residents who lost income due to the coronavirus.

Chairman of the Board Ed Taylor says Moodie’s unique background will help shape Seattle Foundation’s trajectory of centering equity in all that we do.

“Donna’s passion for service and bringing communities together is clearly seen throughout her work with Community Roots Housing and Marjorie,” Taylor said. “With her strategic input, the Foundation is well equipped to help the Greater Seattle Region advance toward a region of shared prosperity.”

Moodie has been a Seattle resident for more than 20 years and is well acquainted with the interconnectedness of social justice, community building and neighborhood activism. She was a founding board member of the Capitol Hill Housing Foundation and chaired the Central District Forum for Arts and Ideas board. She currently serves on the board of the environmental media organization Grist, is a member of the Seattle Center Advisory Commission, and participates in the Central Area and Capitol Hill Land Use Review committees. She has also served on several mayoral commissions and task forces.

Moodie says she is honored by the invitation to join Seattle Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

“I am happy to partner with an organization that prioritizes the vibrancy and health of communities,” shared Moodie. “Mitigating the effects of centuries of injustice and building community strength requires strong partnerships, commitment and passion. I look forward to assisting Seattle Foundation as they dismantle disparities and develop strategies that use philanthropic impact with integrity.”

In her free time, Moodie enjoys hosting dinner parties, exploring the arts, paddle boarding and traveling.
