Amy Carter is Director of Community Engagement at the Gates Foundation

Amy is the Director of Community Engagement at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she and her team support organizations in the Seattle region aligned with the priorities and interests of the Gates family and Foundation, striving to ensure the Gates Foundation shows up as a “good neighbor” in its hometown.  Amy’s work at the Gates Foundation also includes management of the personal giving of the Gates family.  During her 22 years at the Gates Foundation, she also worked in the Global Health Program and as Special Program Officer to the CEO.

Amy earned a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University and a B.A. in International Relations from Mount Holyoke College. Earlier in her career, Amy worked at the Echoing Green Foundation, Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation. Board service roles include: Seattle Girls’ School, Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest, and New Futures (now Southwest Youth & Family Services). Outside of work, Amy enjoys time with her two high school age kiddos and husband, ideally on PNW trails or in the San Juan Islands, and cooking (and eating) Indian cuisine.
