
Fred Rivera is a senior executive, board director, and experienced attorney with more than 30 years of leadership across the private sector, public service, and nonprofit organizations. He is the founder and CEO of The Rivera Group, a sport business advisory firm, and previously served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of First Avenue Entertainment, the ownership entity of the Seattle Mariners. In that role, he was a key strategic partner to the organization’s executive leadership, overseeing legal affairs, government relations, community impact, and the Mariners’ charitable foundation, Mariners Care. Earlier in his career, Fred held senior leadership roles at Perkins Coie LLP—where he became the first person of color to serve as managing partner of the firm’s largest office (Seattle)—and at Fannie Mae, where he helped lead enterprise-wide ethics and compliance reforms.
Fred brings deep expertise in governance, strategy, risk management, and organizational culture, informed by service on numerous public company, nonprofit, and civic boards. His board leadership includes roles with Heritage Bank, United Way of King County (including service as board chair), Delta Dental of Washington, and several business and community organizations throughout the region. He began his legal career as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Widely recognized for his commitment to inclusive leadership and community impact, Fred is a frequent speaker on civic, business, and equity issues and has received multiple honors for his professional and philanthropic contributions.
