SEATTLE, WA — Seattle Foundation is pleased announce the appointment of Lucy Lee Helm and Jason Malinowski to its Board of Trustees. Both bring extensive leadership experience, as well as legal and financial expertise, combined with a deep commitment to community, to their new roles as Trustees.
In 2020, Helm retired from Starbucks Coffee Company, after a distinguished career on the Executive Team, where she served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary, and Chief Partner Officer leading human resources. Helm was at the forefront of the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, including driving Starbucks’ successful gender and racial pay equity campaign in the United States and establishing its pro bono legal services program.
“I have always had tremendous respect for Seattle Foundation and its efforts to ensure that everyone in our region has the resources and opportunities to thrive. I am honored to join the Board of Trustees, to be able to give back to the city I’ve called home for many years,” said Helm.
Prior to her work at Starbucks, Helm was a litigator at Riddell Williams in Seattle and Barnett & Alagia in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. She has won numerous awards for her dedication to civic leadership and pro bono service. Helm currently serves on the Board of the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth and the Advisory Boards of the Endowment for Equal Justice and Disability Rights Advocates. She previously served on the Boards of Mercy Corps, Washington YMCA Youth & Government program and the ACLU of Washington.
Jason Malinowski serves as Chief Investment Officer of the Seattle City Employees’ Retirement System, where he manages a multibillion-dollar portfolio that provides retirement security for thousands of former city employees.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join Seattle Foundation’s Board of Trustees and work alongside a wonderful group of people committed to strengthening and supporting our community,” explained Malinowski.
Before joining the City of Seattle, Malinowski served as a Managing Director at BlackRock, where he was Head of Risk and Quantitative Analysis for Alternative Investments. He previously held the role of Associate Director and Head of Quantitative Research at Quellos Group LLC prior to its merger with BlackRock. Malinowski brings exceptional leadership, expertise in investment analysis, and a deep commitment to serving the community through his work in portfolio management.
“We are thrilled to bring such resolute and inspiring leaders to our Board of Trustees,” Board Chair Donna Moodie shared. “Both Lucy and Jason bring strong passion and deep knowledge of their respective fields, allowing them to demonstrate their leadership skills and create impactful change for the communities they’ve served throughout their careers. These are the very traits that make them a great addition to our Board of Trustees and the Foundation’s efforts to uplift and bring joy to our community.”
